Anniversary weekend in Ireland

Thanks to Grammy and Papi, Mommy and Daddy had a great long weekend anniversary trip to Ireland.

We were fortunate to be able to use airline miles to get business class on the way out, so enjoyed the nice lounge pre-flight.

Since we enjoyed drinks and dinner on the plane, we got only 3-4 hours of sleep. It's a pretty quick flight!  The Dublin airport was so easy. We were on the road about 45 minutes after touching down. The K Club in Kildaire is a beautiful old building.

We had breakfast and took a nap when we were able to check in. Then, we visited Kilkenny (a 1 hr drive). It is an adorable city with a lot of shopping and pubs.

Our anniversary dinner at the K Club was quite nice, but we were also happy to head to bed!

We enjoyed getting some pics from the boys...

On Sunday, we had a great round of golf. The clouds were dark most of the round, but we encountered only a few brief showers. The breaks of sun were amazing. The course (Palmer) hosted the Ryder Cup in 2006, and was very enjoyable. We actually felt like we could have been playing a course back in New England. The course was very lush and in great condition.

It was a nice, relaxing day, and after golf, Tad had his first Guinness in Ireland!

We had a lot of lamb while at the K Club, and it was great!  On Monday, we had a leisurely morning and drove into Dublin by way of Ashford and Wicklow. It was great to have the car for the first few days, but then we were happy to ditch it to travel by foot in the city. We had a great lunch at a little spot recommended by a few people, Fumbally.  We hit our first Dublin pub, O'Donohue's, before heading down Grafton St (shopping) and enjoying a nice nap!

We had a very nice dinner at The Pig's Ear. It was a pretty small place and we had to book in advance!  Both the restaurant and our Westin hotel were right near the Trinity College campus. We walked through the campus quite a bit as a short cut to our various destinations. After dinner, we tried another pub, O'Neill's.

On Tuesday, we headed to the Guinness Storehouse. It is a great museum with a lot of interactive exhibits and tasting experiences. We even got to pour our own Guinness beers (video links below).

Lunch was at Temple Bar. Their sandwich list was amazing (extremely long) and they had the live music we were looking for in a lunch spot. After lunch, we walked across the river to Henry St, but it was a hurried walk as it was quite chilly!  We had a nice, traditional afternoon tea at the Westin.

When we returned to our room, the hotel had prepared a nice anniversary treat!

Dinner was at a nice French spot called L'Gueuleton in the Temple Bar area.  We ended the night with two more pub stops at Gogarty and Quays.

On Wednesday, we were sad to leave our  great vacation behind, but happy to head home to these little guys...
