Jack's Fifth Month

At 4 months, Jack weighed 14lbs 10oz and was 26” long. His shots at the doctor’s office went as well as they could have gone!

December was a really fun month. Jack helped Mommy organize the annual Christmas card list. Daddy brought home a little Christmas tree, Jack’s first (!), from the little flower shop by Back Bay train station. Jack enjoyed sitting by the tree posing for photos. Although we were not home for Christmas, Jack even had a stocking in time for his first Christmas!

Jack’s first photo with Santa went quite well. The line was not too long, and Jack was not afraid of Santa. What more can you ask for from a picture with Santa?

Jack participated in many holiday parties. He attended quite a few Staples holiday lunches and bar gatherings. Auntie Marilyn’s Christmas sleeper got a lot of use as it was Jack’s favorite party outfit! The Burns’ formal holiday party was a lot of fun, but Mommy and Daddy learned an important lesson – it’s time to go with babysitters! Jack did not sleep very well at the party.

During the month of December, Jack got even better in the Bumbo! Such a strong little boy (with plenty of drool). As Jack grew, he also started getting a bit too big for the baby bath tub. We’ll have to figure out baths in our big, sliding glass door bath tub. Jack does love his baths!

Mommy and Jack started another ISIS class in December. It’s called Next Steps and in the class moms and babies bond with one another, singing songs and playing with toys and discussing developmental changes. Jack enjoyed playing in a ball pit while listening to a story one class, and in another class he giggled happily while the class played with the multi-color parachute.

Jack also participated in his first Yanagi Gift Swap hosted at 20 Braddock Park, now a 4 year tradition.

Jack’s second Christmas celebration was the week before Christmas at Uncle Jeff and Aunt Maria’s house. Jack was spoiled with wonderful clothes and toys.

Christmas Eve day we rose early to head to the airport for a Wilcox family trip to St Maarten. We met up with Kevin, Stefani, Elizabeth, and Maryanne in Charlotte on the way to St Maarten.

The weather was beautiful for our 7 day trip and the hotel room at Divi Little Bay was perfect for us with 2 rooms, a full kitchen, and a washer and a dryer IN THE ROOM! On Christmas day, Jack woke up very happy – he knew it was a special day! Jack enjoyed all the activity of Christmas day and then he and daddy had a nice afternoon nap on the beach.

The entire family had a great afternoon in Grand Case, on the French side of the island. We enjoyed beers and BBQ in this open air restaurant by the beach!

Jack went on his first catamaran boat ride and snorkeling trip. We even made a short visit to Anguilla. It was in Anguilla that Jack gave the ocean a try for the first time – he was not a huge fan.

Just because it was vacation did not mean that Jack slacked when it came to tummy time!

We returned home on New Year’s Eve and Mommy and Daddy made it to midnight by playing a rowdy game of Scrabble. On Monday, January 2, 2012, Jack tried solid foods for the first time. Again, he was not a huge fan of the rice cereal and formula mixture (see You Tube video). Applesauce did not go much better a week later. Hopefully the eating process will improve over time!
