Jack's Tenth Month

At 9 months, Jack weighed 20lbs 12oz and was 29.5” long.

Jack’s 9 month doctor’s appointment was ear infection free, but since he has had so many, we are going to get him checked out by an ENT specialist.  During his last course of Amoxicillion, Jack finally learned to take the pink bubble gum tasting liquid without throwing a fit.

For Jack’s 9 month birthday, he went on a trip to CA.  Luckily, Lowell managed to upgrade the entire family to first class!  Jack enjoyed first class as well as mommy and daddy’s 5 year business school reunion and a couple of days in Napa Valley!

Oh, I also failed to mention that WE BOUGHT A HOUSE in April.  Well, we put in an offer that was accepted (20 Holyoke Street pictures below).

Then, we frantically scrambled to get our house ready to sell in 1 week (professional pictures of 20 Braddock Park below).  We were successful in getting it listed prior to our departure for California.  We listed Thursday morning.  On Saturday, I woke up quickly when Tad said, “Melis, we have a full price offer on our place!”  Just a few hours later we accepted the offer.  We close on both places June 29.  We are very excited.  Jack will love his new yard!

May also marked Mommy’s birthday and her first mother’s day…both on the same Sunday!  Aunt Elizabeth, Grandma, Grandpa, Papi, and Grammy met all of us in Sturbridge at the Publick House for a nice dinner (after walking around Old Sturbridge Village for a couple of hours with Grandpa and Aunt Elizabeth).

Daddy and Jack were both very patient as mommy did some birthday outlet shopping!

We spent a gorgeous May Saturday lounging around on the Public Garden.  Jack still loves to be outside.  He naps really well in his stroller outside.

Jack has not gotten the memo that the bar of his stroller is actually an ‘activity bar’ as opposed to a footrest.  He enjoyed brunch at Tico while kicking back and listening to some live music.

We were frequent visitors to the Southwest corridor park during the month of May.  Jack grew more and more accustomed to the swing and even explored ride on toys!

Jack’s attempts at moving around have really improved during the month of May.  Part of it was realizing that he was going to make no attempt to move if we constantly had him in his comfortable sitting position.  On his tummy, Jack has become quite adept at scooting backwards and moving around in circles.  He can cover quite the distance in this manner.  Check out the position he got himself into in his bedroom one day.

And a video of his backwards motion.

We also spent time practicing standing in May.

And time jumping!

For the long, Memorial Day weekend, we decided to stick around Boston.  We spent Saturday wandering around outside in Boston, enjoying the beautiful weather.  Saturday night Mommy and Daddy had a romantic dinner at a great Boston restaurant – The Butcher Shop and met Roy and Emily Burns for a drink at Petite Robert Bistro later in the evening.  On Sunday, we packed up and headed up to NH for some time with Grammy, Papi, Auntie Marilyn, and Auntie Marilyn’s friend, Margarita.  Everyone had a great time.  Jack really likes his new toy car from Margarita.  Mommy and Daddy had a wonderful time playing 18 holes of golf at MCC.  The night was complete with steak tips on the grill.  Monday was an errand filled day in NH (much to Daddy’s chagrin) while Jack had fun with Grammy and Papi.  We learned that sticky rice is not a great food for Jack right now.  He ate the rice, and proceeded to vomit more than we had ever seen him vomit before!  He did enjoy taking tiny bites of daddy’s sandwiches through the weekend (chicken and turkey).

The first weekend in June, we headed to CT to celebrate Elizabeth McCann’s wedding shower.  It was a great reason to get to CT and visit with Grandma and Grandpa as well as GREAT Grandma and Grandpa!  It was a weekend full of activities: the shower, the Hunger Games at the theater, a dinner with Grandma at 2 Hopewell, and pre-church breakfast at Lottie’s.  Mom and Dad even got to play 9 holes of golf – thank you, Grandpa, for the great babysitting!  Jack seemed to have a great weekend as well.  He liked the new, red chair that Grandma bought for him.  It even doubled as a high chair for the weekend.

Jack also reunited with Nicola (my cousin, Caitrin Lynch's daughter) whom he met when he was just couple of months old!

The hard wood floors in Grandma and Grandpa’s house were great for movement. For the first time, Jack managed to move himself forward. Granted, his entire body was touching the floor and he was pulling himself with his arms, but it was FORWARD movement. At this point, Jack has perfected moving backwards and spinning around in circles.

The other breakthrough over the weekend was Jack’s ability (or interest in) to drink from a sippy cup! Instead of banging the cup on the tray and playing with it, he actually tried (successfully) to drink from it by tipping it all the way up and moving his head back.

For the first time, he sat happily in a high chair through an entire meal – the breakfast at Lottie’s.  Jack loved sitting in his big boy high chair and eating all sorts of foods – bread, baby food with oatmeal, banana puffs, and even some peppers and salsa (from daddy’s southwestern omelet).  We tried some homefries too, but Jack was not a fan of the potatoes.

It’s all so exciting!

Jack also enjoyed his visit with Great Grandma and Grandpa.  He especially enjoyed checking out the ceiling fan with Great Grandpa.
