Jack gets a bit nervous in elevators (like many small children), but the reason is surprising (and nice). He gets worried that someone is going to get shut in the elevator or left behind. We rode an elevator recently where he held Blake's hand tightly so Blake could not try to run off the elevator at the wrong floor. It was very sweet.
Jack finds many ways to procrastinate actually going to sleep. He often tells us he is "thinking about bad things," so he cannot go to sleep (often the bad thing is Ursula from Little Mermaid). We then talk about nice things he can think about like going to see Grandma and Grandpa or Grammy and Papi or playing with his friends at school. The other night, Mommy was feeding Max and Daddy was away, so Jack had to work on his own solution. Mommy heard Jack talking to himself and counting. Turns out, Jack was singing a song from Daniel Tiger to help himself feel better, "If you're feeling mad and you want to roar, just take a deep breath and count to 4." What a great solution!
The other morning, Jack came down to our bedroom as usual. This time, though, he stood outside the door and said, "hello, I'm down here! I don't want to scare anyone like last time." Two days earlier he had come down quietly and startled Daddy. It's amazing how much he retains and takes to heart even if it doesn't seem he is paying attention at the time.
